Embroidery

Palestinian embroidery, known as tatreez, is a rich cultural tradition passed down through generations. Girls as young as six or seven learn intricate cross-stitch patterns unique to their villages, imbuing each embroidered piece with a sense of regional identity. Traditional styles vary, from the black and magenta of Gaza to the zig-zag edgings of Nablus. Embroidery also denotes marital status, with vibrant, heavily-decorated dresses worn by married women, and the use of red signifying childbearing years. Today, the art of Palestinian embroidery lives on in modern interpretations, from jackets and vests to decorative pillows, offering visitors a glimpse into this cherished cultural heritage.
