Eid Al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice)

In the Islamic tradition, the festival of Eid Al-Adha commemorates the profound event of God's command to the prophet Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael. As the tale goes, just moments before Abraham was to carry out the sacrifice, God intervened and he sacrificed a ram instead. Muslims believe that Ishmael is the ancestor of the Arab peoples, and they honor this pivotal event during the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, known as the Hajj. The culmination of this spiritual journey is the five-day celebration of Eid Al-Adha, observed throughout the Muslim world. On the first day of the festival, the faithful sacrifice a sheep, distributing portions of the meat to the less fortunate as an act of charity and devotion.
