Omar bin Al Khattab Mosque

Omar bin Al Khattab Mosque, also known as Al-Omari Mosque, is located south of Resurrection Square. It was built on the spot where the Rashidun Caliph Omar ibn al-Khattab prayed when he entered Jerusalem. During his visit to the Church of the Resurrection, the time for prayer came, and he chose not to pray inside the church out of respect for the Christians and to preserve their ownership of the church.

The mosque was initially rebuilt by King al-Afdal Abu al-Hasan Nour al-Din ibn Salah al-Din in 1192 AD. It was later demolished in 1458 AD due to an earthquake that struck the city, but it was rebuilt in 1465 AD. The mosque also underwent restoration during the Ottoman era.
