The Monastery of Saint Joachim and Saint Anne, the parents of the Virgin Mary, is located near the Lions' Gate. According to tradition, this site was the home of the Virgin Mary's parents. In the cave at the bottom of this monastery, Saint Anne prayed fervently to God, asking for a child. The Lord responded to her prayer, and the Virgin Mary was born in this cave. Joachim and Anne were temporarily buried at this location before their remains were transferred to Gethsemane, to be placed next to Mary's grave.
