It is also recognized as the Church of the Teardrop, situated midway on the Mount of Olives along the road leading down to Gethsemane. This church commemorates the place where Jesus Christ wept over Jerusalem. The current structure, shaped like a teardrop, was erected by the Franciscans in 1955 AD, overseen by the architect Antonio Barlucchi, to memorialize Christ's sorrowful moment. It stands upon the remains of a fifth-century Byzantine church, whose mosaic floor is still preserved today.
