The Tulkarm Museum is located just a few steps from the city center. The museum building was originally constructed in 1908 and had an area of around 200 square meters. It was initially used as the post office headquarters during the Ottoman era, before later becoming the private residence of a local resident, Dr. Salah al-Bastami, until the 1960s.
The purpose behind establishing the Tulkarm Museum is to ensure that the area's cultural heritage remains present and relevant, as part of the national effort to preserve this invaluable legacy. The museum's collection includes artifacts that represent the chronological and historical sequence of the civilizations that have passed through Tulkarm, dating back to the Copper Age and up to the Islamic era. This includes sections displaying historical documents, manuscripts, everyday tools, and archaeological artifacts.
The museum aims to showcase the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the Tulkarm region, allowing both local and visiting audiences to engage with and appreciate this important aspect of Palestinian history and identity. By housing these precious artifacts, the Tulkarm Museum plays a vital role in conserving and sharing the area's cultural legacy.
