Islamic Museum (The Islamic Waqf Association)
The Islamic Museum, located across a courtyard west of the mosque within the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the Old City of Jerusalem, showcases exhibits spanning ten periods of Islamic history from various Muslim regions. The museum offers visitors a comprehensive overview of the diverse artistic, architectural, and historical contributions of Islamic civilizations.
The Islamic Museum houses over 600 Quran manuscripts, donated to the Al-Aqsa Mosque by caliphs, sultans, scholars, and others during the Umayyad, Abbasid, Fatimid, Ayyubid, Mamluk, and Ottoman eras. These Qurans vary in size, calligraphy, and ornamentation, showcasing the diverse artistic traditions of the Islamic world over the centuries.
