An-Najah Centenary Museum
The museum was established to serve as an educational resource for students in the Department of Tourism and Archaeology at the university. Its primary purpose is to provide training on antiquities, educate students about historical periods and their distinctive characteristics, and develop awareness among university students regarding the importance of Palestinian heritage.
The museum consists of two main exhibition spaces. One exhibition is dedicated to displaying a collection of Palestinian heritage tools and materials, while the other exhibition focuses on showcasing various antiquities.
The museum's approach to displaying its collections is based on the historical sequence of eras. Visitors can find a curated collection of pottery, glass, and coins from different historical periods, organized into display cabinets. Each cabinet is accompanied by informative cards that explain the history, material, and use of the artifacts exhibited.
The museum was established in two phases. The first phase involved the creation of the Archaeology and Tourism Department during the 1990s, led by the late Professor of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Ghawi Ghawi. He collected and displayed many items as gifts and donations, primarily from university students, including a heritage collection of traditional clothing, agricultural tools, and household items.
The second phase of the museum's development occurred in 2017, when a dedicated antiquities museum was established through a collaborative effort between An-Najah University and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. The Ministry provided a significant number of archaeological materials to be included in the museum's collection.
Throughout its exhibitions, the museum aims to showcase the successive historical stages and the rich cultural heritage of Palestine, providing visitors with a comprehensive understanding of the region's history and identity.
