The Roman Pools - Sanniriya
Sanniriya is a town located to the southeast of Qalqilya Governorate, situated on a hill approximately 250 meters above sea level. The town dates back to the Mamluk period.
Sanniriya and its surrounding area are home to a variety of archaeological sites, historic buildings, and other places of historical significance, with the old town being the most prominent. The town's most notable landmarks include the old mosque and the Roman pools.
The Roman pools are situated on the northern side of the town. These pools, which were carved directly out of the rock, number five in total. The cut stones from these pools were subsequently utilized in the construction of defensive structures and fortifications in the areas surrounding the village.
These stone quarries were later repurposed to become pools, serving to collect rainwater during the winter months in order to meet the water needs of the local population and livestock.
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, in collaboration with the town's local council, has undertaken efforts to rehabilitate and highlight the site of the Roman pools as evidence of the tangible cultural heritage of the Palestinian people.
It is a stone quarry, which was later used as a pool to collect water.
