The Reason Behind The Name: Named after the Al Barqawi family.

Dar Al Sheikh / Al-Barqawi Castle, Kafr al-Labad

The castle was established during the Ottoman period, and it is one of the four castles belonging to the sheikh of the Al-Barqawi family in the region. 

The castle is located in the center of Kafr al-Labad, and its area is about 968 square meters, and it contains an open yard of 490 square meters; it includes a group of rooms, and unique accessories, including water wells, living rooms for the elites (lofts), rooms for servants, and barns, such as horse stables and other animals. The rooms of this castle are distinguished by the use of the arches and the knee-bracing system in construction, in addition to the use of limestone in the building.

This castle was established by Sheikh Issa Al-Barqawi, in Wadi Al-Shaer, and it played an essential role in the region during the Ottoman period and the British Mandate period, as it was one of the areas of influence of the Al-Barqawi family in the region, and part of their sheikhdom. This castle was renovated by the Palestinian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, in cooperation with the Riwaq Foundation. It was inaugurated in 2011.
