Al-Maskobiya Church
It is a Russian Orthodox monastery and church located on the western side of Hebron. It was founded at the beginning of the 20th century, and the monastery's area is about 600 square meters.
Locally, the monastery has been called the Monastery of Al-Maskoubiya, in relation to Al-Maskub or the Russians. Still, the official name is the Monastery of the Trinity, or the Monastery of the Holy Forefathers. The Russian Church acquired the lands on which the monastery was built in the nineteenth century, and later expanded.
The site consists of a church, a castle, houses of Russian monks, rock-cut residential chambers, an ancient wine press, and the graves of those who served the church. The monastery is distinguished by its outstanding golden domes and building, which took the form of a cross, and the high tower beside it. From the inside, Islamic architectural design overlaps with the art of Christian design, where there are spacious rooms with windows adorned with arches and ornaments, rooms built in rock and caves decorated with Christian religious icons, in addition to religious drawings, and statues. The site also includes the historic oak tree, or Abraham's oak (Oak of Mamre).
