The Shrine of Nabi Musa
The shrine exemplifies Mamluk Islamic Arab architecture in its most unadorned form, set against a striking desert landscape. Established by Sultan al-Zahir Baybars, the shrine is situated approximately 8 km south of Jericho and 28 km east of Jerusalem.
The shrine is located in a remote area with sparse vegetation and is perched atop sulfur and sedimentary hills. It occupies about five dunums and features three floors plus the ground level. At the center of the shrine is a mosque and a mausoleum containing the tomb. The complex includes around one hundred rooms—some accessible and others closed—along with a central courtyard that can accommodate numerous visitors.
