Tlul Abul-Alaiq / The Winter Palace of King Herod
The site was known in the Greco-Roman era as the City of Gardens. King Herod used it as a winter resort for himself and his family. The place was considered the cultural center of Jericho during the Hellenistic and Roman periods, until the end of the Roman period when it was abandoned, and the city center of Jericho moved to the current site of Jericho. The gardens were discovered at the site, including a network of water canals that used to bring water from nearby springs, including Ain Al-Sultan, Ain Al-Nuwaima, Ain Al-Duk, and Eid Al-Qilt, to the palace.
