Yasuf’s Springs

Yasuf’s Springs

The village of Yasouf is located 7 km east of the city of Salfit, the village is located at an altitude of 600 m above sea level. Yasuf village‟s name derived from the word “Yashub”, it refers to the village on which Yasuf was built on its location. The Islamic biographer and geographer „Yaqut al Hamawi‟ described the village in his book for its abundance of pomegranate, and attributed it to a number of scholars in the name of Al-Yasoufi. Yasuf is famous for olive cultivation and field crops. The village has five drinkable springs, namely Ein Abu Al-Raja, Bir Al-Touta, Bir Al-Hamam, Ein Al-Wusta and Ein Al-Sharqiyya.

The springs were the only source that provided Yasuf, and the neighboring villages with drinking water. As for the Al-Dalbah spring, people still use it to irrigate lands planted with crops. The place can be distinguished with its green natural environment, where the area has turned into a picnic area for the people of Yasuf, and the citizens from other regions, as many families come to Yasuf to spend their vacations in the village. The village of Yasuf holds cultural activities on yearly basis, such as the Spring Festival, which is one of the Palestinian local festivals.
