Wadi Al-Makhrour

Wadi Al-Makhrour

Wadi al-Makhrour is a picturesque area located west of the city of Beit Jala in Bethlehem. Situated between the towns of Husan, Battir, Al-Walaja, and Beit Jala, this beautiful valley has become a popular destination for long-distance hiking. The trail extends from Wadi al-Makhrour to the village of Battir, passing through areas of great historical and natural significance.

The name "Wadi al-Makhrour" derives from the flow of water from the mountain spring area into the valley below. The area near the town of Beit Jala is known as 'Ein Qabriyanous, named after a natural spring found on the site.

Heading west towards Battir, Wadi al-Makhrour is part of a larger natural valley that stretches from Wadi al-Walaja and Cremisan to the south of Jerusalem, connecting to Wadi Husan and Nahhalin. This region is renowned for its rich biodiversity, offering visitors the opportunity to observe a diverse array of animal, bird, and plant species.

The valley and its surrounding areas have attracted human settlement since the Middle Bronze Age. Remnants of ancient villages from various historical periods can be explored, showcasing the cultural, historical, and artistic heritage of the region, particularly through the preservation of mosaic floors.
