Dome of the Miraj - Al-Masjid al-Aqsa

Dome of the Miraj

The Dome of the Ascension is located on the northwestern side of the Dome of the Rock Mosque, facing north. It was built in its current form during the Ayyubid period under Sultan King Al-Adil Saif al-Din Abu Bakr in 1200 AD. This structure commemorates the Prophet Muhammad’s ascension to the highest heavens. The dome is octagonal and rests on thirty marble columns. The space between the columns is covered with marble, and the dome has a door on its northern side. Inside, there is a mihrab on its southern side.
