Church of St. Peter in “Gallicantu”

The Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu is located on the eastern slope of Mount Zion in Jerusalem. The name "Gallicantu" is derived from Latin, meaning "cock crowing." It is renowned as one of the most significant and beautiful churches in Jerusalem. Built by the Augustinian Fathers in 1932 AD, it occupies the site where the first church was established in the fifth century. This site is traditionally believed to be where the house of the High Priest Caiaphas once stood. It was here that Simon Peter denied Jesus three times before the rooster crowed, as foretold by Jesus himself. The complex includes the upper church, the middle church, rooms used by soldiers, and detention or prison cells.
