Iraqi Army Martyrs Cemetery
The cemetery is located on the road between Nablus and Jenin, about 2 km west of Qabatiya. The cemetery includes the graves of 56 Iraqi martyrs, as the Iraqi army defended Palestine in the 1948 war.
The tower was built on eight steps, and on its front facade (the western side) were written the names of the martyrs of the Iraqi army in the battle of June 3, and on the southern side, the emblem of the Iraqi state was placed. On April 26, 1949, Colonel Saleh Zaki of the Iraqi Army unveiled the monument, and Colonel Omar Ali of the Iraqi Army delivered a eulogy and an enthusiastic speech. The poet Burhan al-Din al-Aboushi presided over the ceremony as well.
It is worth noting that after the 1967 war, the occupation army erected a memorial for the dead Israeli army opposite the cemetery of the Iraqi military, using a Jordanian military tank, and the monument was removed by the occupation authorities after the signing of the Oslo agreement.
