Shuweika Village

It is currently considered one of the neighborhoods of Tulkarm, and is located in the northwest side of the city

Shuweika village is located north of Tulkarm, about 2.5 km from the city, and about 15 km from the Mediterranean Sea. It rises about 100 meters above sea level, and the area of the village is about 700 dunums, while the village's lands are about 6,300 dunums; a large area of its land was confiscated by the Israeli occupation to build the separation wall. This village is currently affiliated with the municipality of Tulkarm. It is considered one of the city's suburbs because of its proximity to the city and urban expansion. The village's population in 1922 was about 1568 people, and the population increased significantly in subsequent periods due to the entry of Palestinian refugees from inside the Green Line (Land of 48), and also due to the city's expansion in subsequent periods.

The village is divided according to the families that live in different neighborhoods. Among these neighborhoods, Al-Naalwa, Al-Bahti, Sheikh Ghanem, Al Gharbia, Abdou, Al Shurafa, Al Fuqaha, Al Masaheel, and Al Mahdawi. The old town of Shuweika includes many historic and traditional buildings that date back to the Mamluk and Ottoman periods, and perhaps the most important of these buildings is the shrine of Sheikh Ghanem; The famous narration mentions that he came from Hijaz during the Ottoman period and settled in the village, and he was known for his asceticism and piety. He established a corner for worship in the town, and when he died, he was buried in it and became known as the Shrine of Sheikh Ghanem, the grandfather of the Al-Ghanem family in Al-ShuweikaThe village also contains the archaeological hill of al-Ras, considered one of the most important archaeological sites in the Tulkarm governorate, which dates back to the Middle Bronze Age, and has civilizational continuity until modern periods.
