The Reason Behind The Name: : It is 30 km north of Jerusalem. It is an oval-shaped hill with 35 dunums between Wadi Seilun and Qaryut Road, and on the southern slope of the Tel is the Byzantine village.

Tel Seilun

It is 30 km north of Jerusalem. It is an oval-shaped hill with 35 dunums between Wadi Seilun and Qaryut Road, and on the southern slope of the Tel is the Byzantine village.

The first excavations were carried out at the site in 1915 by Schmidt, and between the years 1926-1932, excavations were carried out under the supervision of Kajar, which showed evidence of civilization dating back to different eras, starting from the Middle Bronze Age, the Iron Ages I and II, the Persian period, the Roman and Byzantine periods, the early Islamic period up to the medieval period and the Ottoman period. The occupation government has accelerated the excavation process at the site since 1981 until today. 

The excavations revealed remains of houses dating back to the Middle Bronze Age and the Iron Age. In 1926, the remains of the Sixty Mosque were uncovered along with the remains of a Byzantine church paved with colorful mosaics dating back to the fifth and sixth centuries AD.
